Being loved isn't the same as being necessary.
I said this to a room full of library leaders, which felt slightly risky at the time. Libraries are genuinely beloved. But being beloved doesn't protect you when the budget gets decided.
The same is true of most transformation. Everyone agrees in the room, nothing changes outside it, and eighteen months later there's a fresh strategy with the same problems in it.
So the question I keep coming back to isn't whether people like what you're doing. It's whether they'd notice if it stopped.
