"I can't even express how much I love this book! I didn't want this story to end!"--Reese Witherspoon

"Painfully beautiful."--The New York Times Book Review

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens.

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Fantastic and well-written story that held my attention the entire time, never a slow point! Love the way the “who done it” mystery of the the story was beautifully + tenderly revealed! A must read!!

  • Slow starting, worth sticking it out!

I started this book about 2-3 times before finally getting through the first couple of chapters. Once I got to the end of the book, I understand the importance of so much detail….it highlights the world so you have deeper understanding of the time, the place, the characters, as it progresses. You truly are immersed into the story, rather than just reading it. Wish I could experience this book for the first time all over again 🤍

This was a read that captures you start to finish - filled with adventure, suspense, romance, tragedy, growth, inspiration... this book has it all. I didn’t expect to like it so much but I really did!
  • I cried

    By MiniCooperMan
Walt Disney was the first to bring tears to my eyes. Along the way there were others, but the tears were mostly the same, those that come at the story’s end. The tears of this story were different, being the type that comes out from literature that evokes the emotions created by artfully crafted imagery throughout the story.
